Need report on individual source code

Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4

I would like to be able to see a report that lists the transaction details (including people names, gift dates, and gift amounts) related to a certain source code, regardless of campaign year.

So far I have been unable to find anything that gives me this information. The closest I can seem to get is to create a list of people with a certain source code, then run the pledge gift report, but even then, it sorts by appeal and not source, so I am not seeing only the gifts with source code X, which is what I want.

I’m wondering if in the future I should make anything that I want to track specifically its own appeal (versus its own source code)—at least then I could know which line items in the report to ignore. (Note: We don’t use “designations.”) I’m hoping there’s a better way overall, however.

If anyone has advice, I would appreciate it. Thanks!

  • Alaina,

I may be overlooking something but I can't think of an easy solution to your problem using standard reporting tools.

However, before you change the way you track your gifts, I strongly recommend you find yourself a custom report that gives you the information you need. Having one source per appeal does not sound like a great solution.

I'm sure there are many custom reports out there that will give you exactly what you need, all you have to do is ask, have someone send it to you, and have your IT people install it for you.

  • Thank you for your reply, Dale. Regarding asking about custom reports, I'm guessing you meant I should ask the forum community? I haven't received any other responses, but if anyone in the community has a custom report to share, please contact me. If you meant I should ask a Tessitura staffer, please let me know if you know who I can ask about that. Thank you.

  • Alaina,

I meant that you should post your request on the Development Forum.  You could also try the Shared Reports Forum but I would probably start with Development.  I haven't gone searching for custom reports in a while but I'm pretty sure you can also go on TASK and see what is available there.  You will need a login for that though and I can't remember the exact address as I am away from my desk right now.

We have a report that might be ok for your purposes if no one else comes forward.  We call it the "Contribution Download" report.  It is basically for exporting contribution information to excel, it doesn't really display things in a pretty way but that could be altered if you have someone on staff who knows infomaker.  I don't use it much as I do most of my reporting via queries in SQLSever but its a decent report and includes source name and number, as long as you don't mind putting it into excel.

    Hello Alaina,

To follow up on Dale's suggestion of checking TASK, you can now login to it through the Tessitura website without a separate login and password.  After logging into the Tessitura site, click on "Software Support" on the header bar.  On the next page, on the left side of the page click on Login, under Access the TASK Helpdesk here.  This will open a new window, click on the TASK button and you will be directed to the site.

Once you are in TASK, in the top right dropdown select Project "Reference Materials".  This will take you to the current list of Shared Reports.

    Hi Alaina,

I was doing a search on the forum to find a solution to my dillemma which was similar to yours.  Did you happen to find a report that worked for you?  If so, would you mind sharing?

    Thanks!

Hi. I wish I could help you, but no, I never found a good solution to my problem specific to what I wanted, unfortunately. The best I managed was a work-around: For a particular concept that I most wanted to track—for example, gifts for education/donors giving to education—I created one appeal with one source code. That way, I could request reports on appeals and effectively get that source code, since Tessitura reporting is set up to answer questions about appeals but not source codes. Of course, the one appeal/one source answer doesn’t work for all applications; I wouldn’t know how to apply it to a multi-segmented ask mailing (and I’m sure others would advise me against that).

One suggestion I got was to create a list of constituents by source code and then use the list in various reports, but of course, that list would be of the people (overall records) and not just that source code. So, depending on the report you used and the question you asked, you might not only be viewing the source code transactions but other transactions from people who happened to have that code somewhere in their record.

To be honest, I have not had time to search the archives of shared reports, so perhaps an answer has been invented but I’ve not found it.

If you find a good solution, please do post to the forum or e-mail me; that would be very appreciated. Thanks!

PS: We use an automated Tessitura utility to process credit cards for monthly donors who pledge to give in installments over the course of the year. Once I tried to find a way to make a list of all the transactions by contribution source code for a particular month and came up with nothing—because in this instance, you want a promotion source number instead of a contribution source number. So, realize there are different types of sources as well.
