Tap to Give

Hi

Is anyone using a tap to give platform to collect contributions in the lobby of a performance hall? Are you getting enough information to bring those contributions back into Tessitura?

Thanks

  • Hello Jess,
We tried using DipJar a few times, but as you noted - very little data gets collected by it. Luckily most people who used it were already in our system, but if they were new to us we couldn't properly thank them.

  • Hi Sara

We were looking at DipJar as well but are hesitant since they don't ask for any contact information. Would you be willing to tell me a bit more about your experience with them? If you are free for a quick chat, reach out to me at jlevy@sfopera.com and we can set something up.

    Thanks!
    Jess

  • Hi Jess! While our organization isn't using anything I know a couple have mentioned TipTap (Signature Theatre in Virginia is one). My understanding is that the platform doesn't collect ANY data, which is meant to be a perk to the donor as they don't have to input anything, but that's less ideal for us :)

  • Correct, we use Tip Tap and don't get the data, which was a deliberate choice on our part. For our in theatre asks where we got cash, which we have done for years) we don't know who the donors are either. We did consider setting up our own little station in the lobby with quicksale/TRBO, but that would have to be manned by people, would be slower and could be in less places - we currently have 5 Tip Tap stands throughout the lobbies. We honestly didn't even get to the part to figure out if quicksale/TRBO even was feasible or not. We have brought in a pretty decent amount of donations from Tip Tap, enough to more than justify the cost. More surprising is cash still comprises the vast majority of the EOY campaign in theatre ask donations. I thought once we got the Tip Tap it would be more than or at least equal to the cash. These donations are usually dollars, not hundreds, so getting the donor data and perhaps getting less donations because it takes way longer, when these folks are already most likely in our database anyway as ticket buyers since they are at the show, isn't a good enough reason for us to trade for speed and convenience. Note: this is our first year using TipTap.
