Donor Recognition Changes

Hola colleagues,

I'm curious if anyone here has, or knows of other organizations, that have changed their donor recognition from it being tiered by amounts to just alphabetical. My organization is thinking about it as we start incorporating more equitable practices, but would love to see some examples of it.

If you did change it to alphabetical listing, was there any pushback? How did you go about it?

An added note, we are thinking of just doing annual fund donors, not corporate, foundation, or government recognitions.

Thanks,

  • Hi Carlos,

I'm at Kentucky Performing Arts. We switched to listing all our individual donors by alphabetical order by last name and got rid of all mention of giving amounts both in our program and on our donor wall. We do have a section still for donors who are confirmed planned giving donors or have made a legacy gift. We have received zero comments that I am aware of. We made the decision prior to reopening after COVID. It's been two years now, and no one has made a comment about not seeing an amount listed by their name. It's actually easier for us to pull and review the list. I think it's a benefit especially to some high level donors who don't want to be associated with certain level of giving due to the high amount of solicitations they receive. Previously, for those individuals they either wanted to be labeled as anonymous or recognized at a lower giving level. Let me know if I can answer any other questions!
