Philanthropic vs Pay to Participate Memberships

Hi all,
I’m wondering if there are organizations on this list who either considered non-philanthropic memberships (like pay to participate models) and then decided otherwise because of the risk of losing support, or balance both a philanthropic model with a pay to participate model (ex: some JCCs have membership dues).
For context, we currently have a robust philanthropic membership model (Friends of 92Y), but we’d like to do some due diligence to see if there’s any sense in incorporating another membership model as well.
Nothing is planned to do be done but I’m looking for data to support moving one way or another.
Thanks in advance for reaching out!
