Breaking Up A Company

So, one of our longtime, major corporate contributors is breaking into two separate companies, with each taking a substantial portion of the gift. We have trustees past and present, dozens of employees and a bunch of matching gifts in this record, so untangling it is going to be....thorny.

Anyone have any words of wisdom? Is it worth exploring back-end solutions on this one? We've divorced households plenty and I know that usually one of the post-split records ends up with the lion's share of information, but we'll lose a lot of written institutional memory if that happens here.

  • Hello, this is not a recent post, but I'm wondering if you (or anyone) has any solution to this? We have an institutional record for a company where we have been recording both matching gifts and straight corporate contributions, and we'd like to break up the one record into two to have one for matching gifts and one for corporate giving. This would entail moving Plans, contributions, and ticket orders between the two. Any advice or best practices would be helpful!
