Does anyone know what the character limit is for Research Notes and Solicitation Notes?
Solicitation Notes = 4765 characters
Research Notes - I don't believe there is a limit. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
Since nothing is REALLY unlimited, I believe Research Notes can be 547,608,330,240 characters long, in theory.
:)
As far as I can make out:
Research notes are stored in the database in 255-character groups. I don’t know what the limit is of how many groups there can be. It’s a smallint data type, meaning that it can go up to 32,767. So unless you want to copy a novel into research notes, you can go pretty large, I’d guess.
Solicitation notes have a limit of 4,765 characters.

Oops, I stand corrected. Research Notes can be only 8,355,585 characters in length. :)
to put that into some context, the average novel has between 2,000 and 3,000 characters per page so you could theoretically copy and paste a 3,000 page novel into research notes
So when someone asks "What are you writing in that note: 'War and Peace'?" you can now reply "Why, yes, actually I am!"
Hey David, nice to put a face to the name! I am saving the Solicitation Tracking report into Excel so I can output the Solicitation and Task notes for our board to use during a "Thankathon" next week. All goes well but I just discovered that those two fields are truncated and information missing. I only get 255 characters including spaces.. Am I missing something here??
Thanks,
George
I've also had long text fields get truncated when I save report output directly to Excel. Try saving as "Comma Separated Text" and then open that in Excel. That usually seems to do the trick for me. After you've opened the CSV file in Excel you can and should Save As .xlsx.
Awsome!! Worked like a charm, thanks!
