Source Codes

I am curious how other organizations use Source Codes for incoming donations and admissions outside of the Appeal process  (for example, unsolicited annual gifts).  Instead of using Channels, our organization used Source Codes to describe how gifts/pledges reached us - Mail, Phone, Email, etc.  We have recently started using Channels for their intended purpose.  Now that we have been using Channels, I would like to use Source Codes more appropriately to add detail to our contributions and ticketing orders.  I have considered creating one for Membership Renewals and Portfolio Management.

Any other suggestions or advice based on what has worked for your organization?

  • Hi Phyllis,

We have at least one appeal each year for unsolicited gifts or gifts that come in for an unknown reason.  For example we have an appeal called FY20 General Donations connected to our FY20 annual fund campaign, and in it we have sources for general unsolicited donations, donations on top of tickets, money collected in our donation boxes, etc.  We also build in a few sources for these kinds of gifts in appeals that also have promoted sources tied to specific communications, so in our FY20 Membership Renewals appeal we have a source for unsolicited early renewals.

    I hope this helps!

  • Hi Anne,

It did help!  I appreciate the details about how you use source codes.  It gave me some good ideas.

    Thanks!
