Hi all,
I'm curious if anyone has a good solution to what is probably a pretty common institutional relations question. We're preparing our annual report mailing, and part of this project involves mailing to a segment of institutional contacts who are prospective funders, schools we work with, corporate contacts, and other "non-donors" that we want to keep in touch with. We have records in Tess for all of these orgs as well as Affiliate relationships for the contacts that we'd like to mail to; we just need to pull them into a list.
My question for the group is this: is there a good Output Set that someone uses to display corporate and foundation contacts, without also displaying the related institution? My hunch would be to use the "Relationship" elements, export the results to excel, and then filter in excel by our desired affiliate type(s). I'm just curious if others here have had problems doing it this way, or if you have your own method that works well. Thanks as always for any thoughts this community may have!

Depending on how you've set up your system, you might be able to achieve this by fiddling with the Advanced Relationships area in List Manager. If you're pulling in those institutional contacts via Relationships (rather than criteria), you can then pick one of the options that focuses only on the affiliated constituents.
It may not help you now, but we've actually set up a lot of our database to support these kinds of queries. Institutional Partners have a special (custom) relationship of "Org Contact" which essentially means the affiliated record is one we want to have pull in in lists like the one you describe.
