Where do you book your tribute gifts?

Hello all,

Our organization is considering changing how we book gifts made in honor or memorial of someone.  Until now, they have always gone to our Endowment.  I've seen them put to either annual fund or endowment in the organizations I've been in, but I would like to expand my sample size.  Where does your organization these tribute gifts and is there a reasoning behind that choice?

Thanks!

  • Hello, The LA Phil credits tribute gifts to annual operating, unless the donor/solicitation/obit/etc. explicitly states that the gift is for endowment. It is generally improper to permanently restrict/endow without some sort of donor intent or acknowledgement of same. We USED TO endow all, but moved away from that a couple of years ago. Hope this is helpful.
