Hi all-
We are reviewing our policies for solicitation and wondered how others were using the "By" date field. Our policy has been to use it for the date when payment is expected -- but we have thought of several other sensible alternatives (the date a gift is actually received in cash, the date a pledge is made or the date an ask is made). I would be very grateful for any feedback on how others are using this field and how well it was working to track progress towards a gift goal.

Hi Natasha,
We use the Solicitation By Date field for segmentation of solicitations. Some donors give at FYE, some at CYE, etc, so we tend to segment our solicitations accordingly. All of the solicitations for this fiscal year for the group of CYE donors got a "By" date of 12/31/2009. FYE (for us) will be expected by 6/30/2010. For more specific date management, the Solicitation Tasks dates can be used to make sure we, say, mail their renewal packages by a certain date or something of that nature.
