Summary:

The Major Gifts Officer is responsible for managing a portfolio of individual & institutional funders in the major gifts category supporting the advancement of the Company and School of Ballet Arizona. The successful candidate will implement strategies to expand the number of individuals, corporate and foundation donors supporting Ballet Arizona annually; moving them to higher levels of giving and deepening their engagement with the mission and programs of Ballet Arizona. The Major Gifts Officer will work collaboratively with dynamic team members and the Director of Development & Marketing to achieve the fundraising goals for the organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Individual:
    • Meet and exceed contributed revenue goals for donors in the major gifts portfolio
    • Plan and implement major gift cultivation and solicitation strategies for major gifts portfolio
    • Manage a portfolio of individual prospects and donors capable of gifts above $2,500+ and build an annual process to deepen their level of engagement and giving, including face-to-face meetings and fulfillment of donor benefits
    • Maintain individual donor contact reports in the database for monthly reporting to Director of Development & Marketing and Executive Director
  • Corporation, Foundation & Government:
    • Meet and exceed contributed revenue goals for institutional philanthropy
    • Identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward existing and prospective corporate and foundation sponsors and donors
    • Create, implement, and manage strategy and timeline to engage current and prospective corporate partners using Ballet Arizona moves management systems
    • Generate monthly progress reports with respect to the goal
    • Manage fundraising dashboard for the Ballet Arizona board of directors by providing prospects and staff support
    • Support the board development committee meetings with up-to-date fundraising dashboards, prospecting lists, and reporting needs
    • Secure support for special initiatives including but not limited to: Ballet Under the Stars, Education & Community Engagement Programs, the Live Music Fund, and Production sponsorships
    • Serve as the primary relationship manager for corporate and foundation sponsors, guiding correspondence, meetings, and follow-up
    • Manage grants team and reviews grant proposals
    • Craft innovative and compelling sponsorship proposals
    • Track all corporate cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship actions in Tessitura database
    • Conduct thorough research on corporate prospects and compare philanthropic proposals with similar cultural organizations
    • Ensure corporate and foundation benefits are fulfilled working with members of the development and marketing teams
    • Work as a collaborative member of the Ballet Arizona Development team by working performances and supporting special events
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:

  • 3-5 years of development experience with emphasis in securing major gifts and/or corporate sponsorships
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college preferred
  • Ability to project manage and self-motivated to achieve goals
  • Demonstrated knowledge of database strongly preferred; familiarity with integrated fundraising/ticketing databases is essential for success in this position
  • Demonstrated experience and success in the solicitation of major gifts contributions from individuals and/or corporations
  • Strong written and oral communication, persuasion skills, and analytical skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours, nights, and weekends as needed
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while remaining flexible to change
  • Strong familiarity with standard Microsoft Office applications

About Ballet Arizona:

  • The Company, founded in 1986, is made up of professional dancers who present six performance series annually at Symphony Hall, Orpheum Theatre, at its in-house 299-seat black box space, the Dorrance Theater, and at the Desert Botanical Garden.
