Pledge Billing & CVV

Hi all - we've just become aware that VISA is now requiring the CVV on all transactions which puts us in a position to have to call all of our members that renew by mail or set up pledge payments with VISA. How are those that take pledge payments by credit card or accept mail renewals by credit card handling this? Do you call each pledge billing account each month to get the CVV?

NOTE - we are not currently tokenizing.

  • Hi Michele

We received the same notification from Chase several months ago too.  At the beginning of October we turned on our require CVV for our Visa, MC and Amex payment methods.  However, in our testing it only requires the CVV when entering a new credit card on the payment screen.  If you are accessing an existing credit card on account it does not enforce needing the CVV – I do not believe the CVV info is even saved in Tessitura. From our understanding if you process without the CVV you will be liable for any chargebacks but I think it will continue to let you process without.  Although my interpretation could be wrong here.

  • Thanks Karen. That's great to hear that your testing has revealed no enforcement of CVV. We hope to move to tokenization as soon as possible, so that will eliminate any questions but until then we were worried about how to deal with it.
