Auto Restrict Conts Before Start Date

Hello Everyone,

We are the very beginning stages of a couple capital campaigns.  We've received a few contributions but need to have any contributions received at this point go to restricted income.  I see the check mark at the top of the screen, however I do not seem to be able to associate a fund with a date sooner than the start date of the campaign.  Any help is appreciated...

  • Hello Sheila,

You can manually create a restricted shedule during contribution entry by selecting the Restricted Tab in the Contribution Editor.  For details on this process, please see page 36 (section 3.I) of the Contribution Processing document (just follow the hyperlink).

It may also be useful to double check that the Restricted GL values for this funds are different than the Non Restricted GL values.

    I hope this helps!

  • Thank you, I’m familiar with the manual process and the GL funds.  That’s why I need the info to go to the restricted income account.

Since all of the contributions will have to be restricted manually, it seems like the check should eliminate the need to manually restrict each contribution.

Here’s what the Contribution Financial Setup document says:

If contributions to a campaign made before the campaign start date should be time restricted, check the Auto-Restrict Conts Before Start Date box.

We’d like to have the system help make sure the income is posted correctly if at all possible since it feeds our gl automatically.

    Thanks for the quick response!

    Sheila

  • Ah, I see.

You cannot enter a contribution to a fund that is only associated to a campaign for future dates.  Unless you future date the contribution, which I don't think you would want to do.

If these funds were associated to a current campaign and associated to a future campaign, you would be able to select which campaign the gift should go towards (and then the Auto Restrict Cont Before Start Date would work).  However, as you mention this is a new campaign and so it sounds like these funds would not be associated to a current campaign.

If this is the case, the only good option is to manually create the restricted schedule when entering the gifts.  Any other option could lead to greater misentry errors.

  • Bummer man – I read that completely differently.

    Thanks for saving me time.
