So we just discovered that the "Recog Amount" in memberships isn't actually the total amount of the gifts associated with that membership. Can we modify that field to be the total amount of all gifts in that membership, or does someone know of a report for membership renewal that could at the very least show "Amount" PLUS the "AVC Amount", which actually is the what we would expect the Recognition amount to show.
Heather,
The Recog Amt is a field that is auto popluated when the membership is created but needs to be manually adjusted when subsequent gifts are entered that affect that membership.
So when when a constituent makes a $100 gift and a new membership is created, the recog amt will automatically be set at $100. If that same constituent makes an additional gift that affects that membership, the recog amount will have to be manually adjusted up to reflect the total giving.
I'm guessing your gift entry people have not been adjusting the recog amt when they enter the gifts which is why your recog does not equal Amount plus AVC Amount.Dale

Hi Heather!
The Membership Detail Status Report in the Membership Folder pulls Amount + AVC Amount. Take a look at that as it might fit your need.
These fields are both columns in TX_CUST_MEMBERSHIP (actually, memb_amt and AVC_amt). If you were to create a new report, you could certainly add in a formula for memb_amt + AVC_amt. Or, these fields can be added to Output Set Builder, though you may want to include element parameters. There is nice document on Output Sets you may want to check out.
Lastly, and then I’ll be done, some organizations have written a procedure that might run nightly to update the Recog_amt to equal memb_amt + AVC_amt. As Bob points out, any manual edits would be over written if such a procedure exists, however.
Hope this helps!
Nick

Okay, I can understand that. So then does that mean that there is a way to pull the membership sum(w/out changing the recog amount manually)?

The original intent of the recognition amount field was to fulfill an enhancement request which asked for a way to recognize a membership amount other than the sum of the membership's actual gift amounts. To accomplish this, the recog_amt column was added to tx_cust_membership which is set to the initial gift amount that creates the membership. It is not updated by Tessitura after that as an update would wipe out any custom recognition amount entered manually thereby defeating the purpose of the field.

Ha, I am the gift entry people. And no, I have not been adjusting because I didn't know that was a manual process, I thought it was automatic, much like the way the membership level adjusts itself to the gifts... From a brief conversation I've had with a tessitura person, my impression was that that field can be modified.
