Would anyone be willing to share their Campaign/Appeal Type/Appeal/Source hierarchy for their Major Giving (or similar) efforts? It seems that a Major Gift Officer's activities don't necessarily fit neatly into the standard Appeal/Source structure that works so well for larger-scale Membership activities.
In the past, I've used something like this:
Campaign: 09 Major Gifts
Appeal: 09 MG Renewal
Outside Source: 09MG Renewal
or
Appeal: 09 MG Acquisition
Outside Source: 09MG Acquisition
And any "moves" would be tracked either in CSIs or Solicitations. This was adequate because the department was largely interested in tracking renewal vs acquisition performance and not much else.
But I feel there are probably more interesting models out there. Is anyone out there willing to share?

Like you we have two appeals for Major Gifts - Acquisition and Renewal - but we use a few more sources:
Acquisition:
MG - Planned GivingMG - Staff CallMG - UnsolicitedMG - Acquisition LetterMG - Staff Meeting
Renewal:
MG - UnsolicitedMG - Planned GivingMG - Staff CallMG - Renewal LetterMG - Staff Meeting
Actual renewal and acquisition efforts are tracked in Solicitations as they are almost always one-on-one solicitations (calls, letters etc.) We will occasionally have a mass solicitation such as a year-end second gift ask, these are tracked using a source code that gets promoted to the appropriate accounts. In the case of a second gift ask, we would probably put that in a separate appeal called "Major Gifts Second Gift" or "Major Gifts Upgrade".Dale
That's it exactly, I didn't show the media types for each source but for "Staff Meeting" the media is "in person meeting", for "Staff Call" its "staff phone call".
