Plans -- Using "dummy" Campaigns Not Tied to Specific Fiscal Years/Funds

Hi everybody,

We're working on configuring Tessitura Plans to track our moves management (goodbye Excel!)

The more we discuss internally, the more we realise our goals are not tied to our specific Tessitura Campaign/Fund structure as currently configured.

Because the goal is multi-year gifts with moneys across different Tessitura Campaigns/Funds (Memberships, Major Gifts, etc) all towards a specific recognition programme, we are considering creating a new "dummy" Tessitura Campaign (say, "Donor Recognition") with no fiscal year, no active Fund, and no active Designation. It would just be to house the Plan.

Is there any downside to this that we haven't considered? We realize all the contributions will need to be manually tagged with the Plan, but given the volume that seems manageable workload.

Thanks in advance!

  • UPDATE: Yes, it allows me to manually assign Contributions to the "Prospecting" Campaign Plan.

Note it took some work as I had an issue where I could not add the Plan to customers through Plan Maintenance because the associated Prospecting Campaign didn't have a Fund or Designation.

After some toying it seemed to work after I added a Fund to the Campaign, saved the Campaign, then removed the Fund. I could now select "(none)" for Fund in Plan Maintenance and proceed.

  • Hi Michael,
Suppose you have a membership organization setup where $50 is your first level, $100 is your second, etc.  You would process the $70 donation to the first campaign and it would add a new membership at the first level with $20 AVC amount.  Then you would process the $30 for the second campaign and the membership would update to the $100 level.  It would involve splitting the $100 into two gift entries to each of the two campaigns.
Not sure about online and how you have your setup.  If web gifts were going to a specific fund that were tied to a membership it should work or if they go to on account, then you would process the money to the appropriate campaign.
There is info on memberships in the Tessitura help system that gives some good points in setting up and planning memberships that might help you decide whether this option might work for you.
    Hope that helps.

  • Thanks T.C.

No, that won't work with what we're doing. But it was a good path to follow.
