I'm in a peculiar situation. We received a check through a community fund that included three donations. After requesting reports from the community fund, I come to realize that these three donations were from people who donated through their companies and their companies donated through the community fund. I know how to credit gifts to other people, but is there a way to credit the credit?
Donor (needs to be credited) < Company (needs to be credited) < Community Fund (gift goes in this account)
In this situation I would probably do 3 different gift transactions for the portions that were from each of the different individuals and I would enter and tredit as follows:
If using the membership functionality, I would have the hard credit be the community fund, use the Initiator field for the company (which will make the donation and the amount appear in the company record under the contributions tab), and then assign the membership in the contribution processing to the individual donor, selecting whatever soft credit type you have set-up that best fits. This way it appears in all three records giving historys and the donor gets any membership that they are entitled to.
If you are not using the membership functionality, I would still have the hard credit on the comunity fund, use the Initiator field for the company, and add the donor as a soft credit on the creditee tab during gift entry, but be sure to credit the full amount or it won't show up on the donor's giving history.
