In Honor/Memory of Gifts

Hello All-

I am wondering how all of you handle in honor / memory of gifts that come in through your website. We are using TNEW, and have a place on the donation page of our site to indicate whether the gift is being made in honor or memory of someone and what that person's name is, and I can view that information through CSIs. However, I would like for that to also be recorded on the contribution detail itself. Is there a way to have that directly saved to the contribution at the time the gift is made online? If not, I am curious how others handle this. When I process these types of gifts myself, I add the honoree / in memorium person as a creditee, indicate the creditee type and also use an "IHO/IMO" gift designation.

Thank you,

Lindsay

  • Hey Lindsay,

At Tulsa Ballet, the situation we had was essentially the same as you described; the TNEW form prompted the donor to identify the person they made a gift in honor or in memory of, and then after the fact, I would go back in and add the creditee information.

Unfortunately, I don't have any better information about how you could automate that process during the actual TNEW transaction path.

    Thank you,

    Brian

  • Brian, thank you for your response. What you describe is essentially the solution I came to as well; however it is complicated by the fact that web gifts are treated by the system as orders, and as a Development Staffer I don't have access to the Order tab at all, so we are working through that on an organization level.

    Best,

    Lindsay

  • Hi Lindsay,

FWIW, we use TNEW and use a specific LTR_TNEW_CONTRIB_TYPE for Tribute Gift. The donor fills out a form, the information is collected in a CSI and the money is sent to On-Account. The Records Team runs the CSI report and the On-Account Tracking Report once every couple days (more often around the holidays) and manually enters as Contributions at that point (with a $0 soft-credit to the Tributee). Little more work, but it ensures that Tributes are entered the way our Records team wants.

  • We use the TNEW contribution page and have IHO/IMO set up as a contribution type in LTR_TNEW_CONTRIB_TYPE and then have custom fields capturing the appropriate information.  That information comes in as a CSI and our data entry person enters the transactions into a batch.  We use an IHO and IMO appeal, with each separate person/event as a source.  That prevents us from confusing actual credited gifts from IHO/IMO gifts as we have a large group of seasonal staff and we try to keep things as clear as possible.

    Hope that helps!

  • Thank you both - this is great information!
