Pledge Payments

Are there any organizations that have any issues with pledge payments that come from an unexpected source (corporation, foundation, donor advised fund). At the beginning of each fiscal year our Board of Trustees submit pledges in writing for their annual giving excpectation which are entered into Tess.

However, they do not always indicate where the payment will come from. My understanding is that Tess will not allow a payment in one record (Corporation/Foundation) to be applied toward a pledge that lives in another record (Trustee). This happens frequently enough to where zero'ing out the initial pledge and reentering the gift would be frustrating.

Thanks for any suggestions!

  • On our pledge forms, we include options of "I will be making a grant recommendation to a donor-advised fund for the above amount." and "I will be making a charitable distribution from my individual retirement account (IRA) which is managed by [blank] institution." in the "Payment Method" section. We won't book a pledge for those who indicate they are giving through their DAF and will only book a pledge for an IRA contribution when we know the managing institution. Hope that helps!
