Hello,
We offer a one year comp membership to new home owners in our area as a welcome gift from their realtor. I am wondering if anyone has ever set up a Comp membership level and how that affects the data base. I don't want it to be a triggered membership level we want to add them manually but need to be able to track how many we have and who they are.
Thanks
Sarah
Hi Sarah - we have two types of comp memberships. For one, we want Tessitura to process normally and so we use a Promo code and specific MOS so that the members can purchase online.
For the other, we have a campaign called Comp Memberships that is tied to the our general membership organization - this is what we use to manually create comp memberships that we donate for auctions, giveaways, etc.
In either case, it's the same membership organization as regular ones so they count when looking at number of memberships but we have something to filter if we want to exclude them.
Sarah,
The way our organization set up comp memberships is two fold. We create the membership manually in the history tab of someone's account, with no contribution tied to it. Then, we made a CSI activity type that was Comp Membership, which we add to each record so that we can 1. print their membership card since no acknowledgement is generated and 2. so we can track comp memberships more easily.
Jim, I'm curious - do you add a comp. membership to an account like you would a membership with a contribution? Do you have a unique comp. membership organization with all of the levels set to a contribution amount of 0? Part of the reason we set up the way that we did is because it seemed like we couldn't get around the issue of membership levels needing a contribution amount, which obviously doesn't work for comps. Thank you!
The regular comp memberships we just enter manually on the History:Memberships tab. The "Comp Memberships" campaign is linked to our standard Membership Organization, so same levels as purchased memberships. Nothing goes on the Contributions tab, so no ack letters, so we also use CSI to track for weekly reprints/comp card printing.
The special comps are for a local college and need to be available online for the students to claim. We set up TNEW with a promo code for them to enter and I forget exactly how we got around the contribution amount but I remember it's timing - they select the level and add it to their cart and then a discount is applied at checkout. Essentially they're purchasing a $65 membership (following the membership table rules) that gets reduced to $0.
An email from someone prompted me to find the bit I couldn't remember - we have a custom table designed by TNEW that links promo code to the TNEW contribution type to the membership level to the new discounted price. Happy to share screenshots or answer questions.
