Post a Pledge and Full Payment

I know how to post a pledge and a partial payment in the same contribution window, but does anyone know of a way to post a pledge and pay the full amount at the same time without having to use multiple batches? Thanks!

    There does not seem to be a way to do this since as I am certain you have discovered the payment schedule disappears when you payoff the pledge in the same transaction.  If you were working in an uncontrolled batch it might be possible. 

     

    Curious though what function the pledge provides that entering it as gift would not?

    I haven't tried it as an uncontrolled batch yet. . . We do a lot of reporting based on pledge amounts vs received amounts, so even if we get the full payment at the same time as the agreement, which, let's be honest, very rarely happens, we still want a record of the pledge.

    Brandi, As Leslie replied, I don't think it is possible to record a pledge and a full pledge payment in the same batch in Tess. I'm curious the specificity of reporting with regard to keeping account of pledges. On our end, we basically enter a pledge any time we have a firm confirmation of a pledge where payment is not received at the same time; any time we are told that we're receiving an amount of money and get the payment information at the same time just goes in as a gift. As far as I know, we've never entered a pledge that we had payment information for just to transact a pledge payment in the next batch. I would be curious, though, of the thought process just to see a different perspective on the process. Thank you, Brian

    Brian, The only time we post money as just a gift is if we receive an unsolicited donation, such as an additional payment on top of a membership fee. The majority of our gifts are tied to Gift Agreements, which are essentially contracts outlining the Sponsor/Donor's agreement to give x amount of dollars to support xyz, and our agreement to provide benefits as outlined in the agreement. Whatever is agreed upon in the GA is then entered into Tess as the Pledge, which is then paid all at once or in installments. As I mentioned before, we rarely get full payment at the time of the Pledge, but it does happen occasionally.

    Brandi, Ah, that makes sense. Most of our Corporate/Foundation giving follows a similar Pledge-then-Payment format (and rarely at the same time), while the overwhelming majority of our Individual/Household giving is more of a Gift contribution without a payment plan. By the way, as a side note: love Crystal Bridges. My wife have made the drive from Tulsa a couple times now, most recently at the start of the New Year to see the Frank Lloyd Wright house.
