Position Title: Director, Development Operations
Department: Development
Classification: Exempt
Reports to: Senior Director, Development
The Director, Development Operations ensures that appropriate systems and procedures are in place to support all Philharmonic fundraising efforts. This includes, but is not limited to, gift processing and receipting; fulfillment of membership benefits; financial reporting and reconciliation; donor ticketing, donor events and other activities for donors; ongoing customer communications; and support of telefundraising efforts.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Ensures the integrity, accuracy and compliance of the department’s customer and financial data.
2. Manages the Development Operations team; establishes and monitors expectations for gift entry, ticket processing, customer data, etc.
3. Leads fundraising reporting and reconciliation efforts.
4. Establishes and maintains open and effective communication with each fundraising group within the department as well as the IT, Finance and Marketing departments. This includes representing the interests of the Development Department at interdepartmental meetings.
5. Establishes tracks, analyzes and reports on goals and objectives that measure performance for each major set of fundraising activities within the department.
6. Establishes and maintains the department’s overall data and customer information strategy and plan. This includes working with all groups in the Development Department to determine and interpret routine and exceptional reporting needs and analytics requirements. Works with the Finance and Information Technology (IT) Departments to provide reporting and analysis support to the VP of Development and other Philharmonic entities as appropriate.
7. Develops and documents operating procedures and policies for the Development Department.
8. Ensures the effective use of technology support systems by each staff member in the department.
9. Miscellaneous duties as required.
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s or equivalent degree with demonstrated skills and managerial experience in a fast-paced, constantly adjusting environment; proficiency with databases – working knowledge of the Tessitura system is highly desirable; direct experience in non-profit fundraising operations; strong analytical and project management skills; ability to manage ambiguity, and establish clarity, across organizational lines; exceptional verbal and written communications skills.
