Refund options

The day is coming when we're going to need the "refund prior payments" functionality - the ability to reverse a credit card charge without having to reach the customer for their credit card info. Is this ability limited to ticketing and can't be applied to a contribution that was double-charged? Following the procedure for "refund adjustment" we need to contact the customer for credit card info (since that data hasn't been kept on file). If we can streamline this, it would provide relief to us constituents who are already annoyed. Thanks for your help. Cheers!

    We're able to refund credit cards through Tessitura on contributions. Since Tess will display a partially-anonymized credit card number when you look at the contribution detail (or on the Transactions tab, Credit Cards radio button), when a contribution needs to be refunded via credit card I just look up the card type, last four digits, and expiration date and then match it up when going through a new batch to refund the amount of the contribution.

    We don't keep credit card information on file in the office, but the anonymized card information is saved in Tess for reference.
