Renewals for multiple funds in one membership organization?

Hi there,

Any other organizations out there have a single Membership Organization, but have contributions arriving through multiple funds tied to that organization?

When we run our appeals for members entering their renewal period, we want to keep them contributing to the fund that they've been using in the past. Wondering how other orgs keep track of this and pull the appropriate data into their appeal letters.

  • Hi Nick,

We have multiple funds and multiple campaigns that all count towards a donor’s membership.  When pulling in a renewal contribution amount, we pull from the membership “recorded amount” field.  To have this field reflect their total giving to all funds though does require a manual check/update during the gift entry process as (at least for us) only the first contribution on a membership is automatically populated in this field.  Additional gifts have to be manually added.  Once we put this in the gift entry process it has gone quite smoothly and now that field we use for LOTS of things.

Before we used the “recognition amount” field, we used to pull the contribution total for each fund using an output set – using “Contribution Lst Gift FILTERED”.  We’d run it by a list and would have to do it several times to get all the funds, combine them in an excel spreadsheet, total the columns and use that for merging.  This process is still used by some of our fundraisers when they want to do very specific asks such as “$____ for fund X, $_____ for fund Y, and $____ for fund Z.
