Lapsed Membership that shouldn't be lapsed?

Hi, I'd love some help on this wonky issue I just discovered.

We give a complimentary membership to a random constituent each month who has recently taken our online patron survey after purchasing tickets.

How I usually set this complimentary membership up in Tessitura is by going into the Constituent Record, going to the History tab, then Membership. Then I manually add a Membership to their record. I use the month that they took the survey as their initiation date and a year from that month as their expiration date, then I just select our lowest level of Membership and add a note about it being a complimentary membership thru our patron survey.

Typically this works just fine. There is one comped member whose complimentary membership started in July 2016 and I set the expiration date for July 2017. However, their status shows that their membership is "lapsed." I can't find any indication as to why it would be lapsed, and it's never happened before to any of our other complimentary memberships.

Anyone had this happen before or can shed some light on why they'd be marked as lapsed when they've got 10 months of membership left?

Thanks!

    Hi Laura,

To get into a Lapsed state the membership would have to be touched by the Membership Update Utility. You should check the constituent's audit log and see when it changed status from 2 (Active) to 7 (Lapsed). If it was changed, and then the membership end date was changed to the future, it doesn't automatically revert back to Active. Hope that helps!
