When we try to add a fund to a new campaign it tells us that the fund is already associated with a different campaign, HOWEVER, this different campaign is not listed in either the active or inactive campaigns. Am I missing something? Where has the campaign gone. Is it possible someone accidentally deleted the campaign but its still associated with the fund?

Have you checked Elevated Events as well as simple Campaigns?
Or, if your org uses Control Groups, it's possible that someone has set a Campaign to a Control Group that you don't have the rights for.
