Okay, I'm having a moment about the Lapsed membership status once a member renews.
I know that if a member renews early there will be an ACTIVE membership and PENDING membership record.
If a members does not renew by expiration the membership moves to Lapsed for set period time -- here is where I'm having a moment.
I keep thinking the Lapsed membership records remains for the set period time UNLESS the member renews. At the time the member renews the Lapsed record would change to Inactive (if not when the renewal is made then when the next Membership update took place)
It now seems that the Lapsed membership remains for the entire set period EVEN if there is also an ACTIVE renewed membership. If this is true when I'm pulling records in Lapsed status I should be checking that it does not have ACTIVE status. is this correct?
Leslie,
Trust your gut on this one. We had a defect in v12.1 where lapsed memberships were not being marked as inactive after a renewal when they should have been. This issue was resolved in v12.5 and when you upgrade you will see these marked correctly on entry. The release note is: "If a membership had an expiration date in the past but was still in an Active status and a new membership to the same organization was created which was currently active, the expired membership did not get marked as Inactive."
You may deactivate these manually or put in a ticket with support and they can help you clean these up.
Best,
Anna
Thanks – my gut did tell me this is NOT what I have been seeing all these years. Nice way to start the week.
