Using Attributes with string/alphanumeric values as criteria

Hi there,

When we transitioned to Tess, we moved a field from our old database called "Introduced by:" and then open text field into Tess as an Attribute string/alphanumeric value.

Is there a way to use this as a criteria for a report or list when we know there are some common answers, such as board members? Currently when I try to use attribute and value as a criteria, it won't let me use open text.

Is there other way that people are managing introductions? By a relationship type?

Thanks,

Josh

    Hi Josh,

It sounds like your Attribute or Criteria maybe wasn't set up right. In T_KEYWORD it should look like:

    123 | Introduced by: | String | Alphanumeric | TX_CUST_KEYWORD| !.key_value |

Category should be whatever you assigned it (Constituent maybe), Use for List is Attributes, and Control Group should be whatever's necessary for you. The rest of the boxes should be unchecked or blank.

When you drag it into a list you select 'Like' and type '%John%' to get Introduced by: anyone with John in their name. You can type a full name, but I would recommend using the wild card % until you get the hang of searching this way. You can make a list with multiple names (ie all your board members), but it will require some manual editing of the query.

    Hope that helps,

    Ann

  • Ann,

You are amazing. Thank you! You are the Beyonce to our Kelly Rowland. The star.

I was overcomplicating my system table, by including details from another Ref table. Once I got rid of all that, it worked perfectly.

Everyone here at SDC literally cheered.

    Thanks so much,

    Josh
