Utility to creat membership without Contributions

A new NYC began an initiative this past year where folks with the new Municipal ID get a FREE "membership".   Just about everything we need to automate this process is already available in Tessitura except adding a membership record.   There is not contribution that will create this.

Wanted to check if any site has created a report utility to create membership -- much like is done with Manage Constituency or Attibutes.  If so would you be willing to share.

Thanks - Leslie

  • Good call, Matthew. We've had some challenges because you cannot add a complimentary membership to a record that already has an active membership. That would definitely take some thought if you wanted to automate this. When we do this manually, we just have to extend the existing membership. This is also on my list for the MAC when we get around to re-working membership; I'm hoping we can create some good way of creating large numbers of complimentary memberships.

Also, don't forget that if you use acknowledgement letter functionality to print your membership cards, you won't have a contribution to pull from  for a complimentary membership. So you'll have to arrange another system to get cards printed. We use a custom CSI for that.

At UW Meany Hall we have a back end utility that creates memberships as part of our custom gift import process. I'm not sure how much work it would take to convert it into a report utility, but I'll take a look when I'm next in the office (next week.)

Would the membership you're creating exist in the same membership org as your existing memberships, or would you create something special for the free ones? Would it have fixed dates? Seems like the complicated thing to deal with might be what would happen if the utility tries to create a membership for somebody who already has one.
