Plans - Board and CEO as Primary Workers?

Those of you who have been actively utilizing Plans. Are you setting up your Board Members as Primary Workers, or are you setting up Devo Associates as Primary with Board as another type, e.g. Solicitor or Cultivation etc...

Same question for your CEO, Primary Worker?

Pros and Cons of both setups would be welcomed. e.g. reporting purposes

Thanks,
Heather

    Hi Heather,

We always set one of our development officers as the primary worker. We have a role named "Portfolio Manager" for that. When a board member or one of our senior leadership also work with a donor we add them as "Solicitor" but the devo staffer in charge of the relationship is always the primary worker. Not every prospect has a dedicated solicitor, but every prospect is assigned to a fundraiser.

We don't do a lot of reporting around Plans so I can't offer much input about that. It seems like the Plan Summary report and the portfolio tool are flexible enough that you should be able to adapt to either way you choose. That "Copy to Clipboard" button in the portfolio view is super helpful, as you probably already know!

    Hi Heather,

Here’s a little copy and paste from our plan options guide.  I hope it’s helpful (and shows up properly), let me know if you have any questions.

    Carla Moy, 92nd Street Y

    92Y Plan Workers
A worker can be anyone who is playing a large or small role in the plan - they may have brought the prospect to our attention, making the introduction, helping to develop strategy, actually making the ask, researching the prospect, and/or helping to administer and maintain the plan.
Primary Worker is the worker who holds the primary responsibility for the fundraising plan.  It may not be the person making contact most frequently or actually making the ask, particularly when working closely with program staff.  Primary Worker should be a member of the Development Department for any plans actively being worked on for Major Gifts.
    Role Description
Admin Helping to administer and maintain the plan
Board Ambassador A board member working on/involved with a plan
Committee Member/Volunteer A committee member, volunteer, active patron, and/or donor working on/involved with a plan
Development Officer Development staff member actively working on executing the plan
Executive Lead Executive Office or ELT staff working on/involved with a plan
Identifier Individual/Organization that identified the prospect as a prospect
Program Staff Program staff member working on/involved with a plan
Researcher Assigned to perform reasearch for the plan
  • Thanks, for posting this, Carla! It's helpful.
