I'm new to Tessitura having come from Raiser's Edge, and I'm finding that there are many functionalities that are more difficult to accomplish in Tessitura without certain features of Raiser's Edge.
I am particularly struggling with the query/lists/extractions process, feeling like the operators available in RE gave me much more flexibility and allowed me to perform list pulls and analysis much more quickly than I'm so far able to accomplish in Tessitura. I'm sure there are more effective ways particular to Tessitura that coming from RE I'm not thinking of yet.
Does anyone else speak RE and Tess who could help me translate a bit?
Thank you!
Actors Theatre here. We also moved from RE to Tessitura. Feel free to reach out.

This would be a terrific user group to swap ideas. I used to be quite efficient in RE and compromise what I can now do with Tessitura.

Hi Megan,
We came from Raisers Edge - I understand what you're experiencing, so if you'd like to go ahead and send me a message with what specifically you're struggling with, I'm more than happy to help you out as I wish someone had been able to help me out!

Here is where I cannot seem to get ahead in Tessitura that was so easy in RE: getting giving history out to merge into letters.
I want to get fiscal year total giving info for each past donor – Lybunts for last fiscal year. Sybunts for their last giving year. I cannot seem to get this info at all.
How have other RE users or any Tessitura users accomplished this so that you can export into an excel sheet and merge with letters so address info is also included?

Hi Laura (and anyone else facing a similar situation)!
This can definitely be accomplished using Lists (or Extractions saved to Lists) and Output Sets. Follow these steps and you should have the results you need.
Add a row to TR_QUERY_ELEMENT_PARAMTER with the following values (this entry will allow you to specify the Fiscal Years to base the contribution totals off of, based on Fiscal Years set in your Campaigns):
Description: Campaign Fiscal Year
Data Type: String
All other columns: leave blank
***NOTE THE ID NUMBER FOR THIS ROW – YOU WILL NEEED IT IN THE NEXT STEP
Add a row to TR_QUERY_ELEMENT with the following values (this entry will allow you to pull contributions totals by fiscal year through Output Sets):
Description: Cont Total by Fiscal Year
Category: Contribution
Data Select: sum(cont_amt)
Data From: VS_CONTRIBUTION a JOIN VS_CAMPAIGN b on a.campaign_no=b.campaign_no
Data Where: fyear = <<p#>>
***IN THE DATA WHERE COLUMN, REPLACE THE “#” WITH THE ID NUMBER FROM TR_QUERY_ELEMENT_PARAMTER
Single Row: Check
Create a list for each LYBUNT and SYBUNT year you would like to mail to. For example, “Donors 2015”, “Donors 2014 but not 2015”, “Donors 2013 but not 2014 and 2015”.
In Output Set Builder, create an Output Set for each LYBUNT and SYBUNT year you would like to mail to, including name and contact information you would like to pull out of Tessitura to merge into your letters. For example, “Donors 2015”, “Donors 2014 but not 2015”, “Donors 2013 but not 2014 and 2015”. In each Output Set, Include the Cont Total By Fiscal Year element you just created. Click on the “…” button next to this element and type in the Fiscal Year for the respective Output Set.
From Reports/Utilities, run Execute an Output Set from the Lists and Output Sets folder, using your matching Output Sets and Lists. For example, Output Set: Donors 2015, List: Donors 2015. Run this report once for each LYBUNT/SYBUNT year. Save the report output to Excel (be sure to check the box labeled “Include Data Labels”).
Hope this helps!
Nick
Nick, Thank you for providing the script to make this happen. I will definitely add this to our capability set-up. This is helpful if/wehn we are pulling lists that match the exact fiscal year.
I interested if there is a way to output the last fiscal year giving for a group of SYBUNTS without having to run separate SYBUNT lists based fiscal year giving. For example; John Doe’s last fiscal year gift was in 2014 and Jane Smith’s was 2013. Both individuals are in the same SYBUNT extraction/ list manager list. Is there a way to set up the Output Set to pull each of the individual’s last fiscal year gift without having to split the SYBUNT list into two lists?

Another RE convert here. I am struggling with pulling donation, performance information and constituent contact information out to send to our telefunding group. The logic in Tessitura is vastly different than Raiser's Edge and it appears there is no simple way to accomplish this in Tess.
Anyone willing to lend a hand to a newbie? I need to create a Sybunt list, Lybunt list and one for non-donor ticket buyers. I've tried the Campaign Giving Comparison reports but it's not showing the constituents I know should be included for Sybunt and Lybunt lists. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
I feel you and I'd love to help! Feel free to email me directly (mmalone@pacificsymphony.org).
Hi Norma,
I completely understand where you are coming from. I have used Raiser’s Edge for a few years, I even worked for Blackbaud for a couple years. I have used Tessitura for over 6 years now. All that said, the best telefunding solution I have had is a customized report that pulls contact information, 5 years of giving, last 5 subscriptions, last 5 single tickets (non-subscription) and so much more! We have tweaked our report over the years, and our telefunding vendors love the data.
Best,
Tony
PS – If you are interested, I could see if our programmer would be willing to share the report. We do have some custom data in there, however.
