Hia
I am wondering if anyone is able to advise if there is an auto-mail merge ability within Tessitura at all?
We are trying to streamline a few of our manual processes and the ability to be able to schedule a report and mail merge the results to either a bunch of saved merged word documents or directly to the printer would be brilliant?
I have a suspicion that if it is possible at all, it is going to be something more to do with the Microsoft apps side – but am wondering if anybody has this kind of thing setup and running anywhere else?
Regards
Chris
Hi Chris
Here are a couple of options.
You are not able to schedule a Mail Merge itself but you can schedule the output of the data to be used in the Merge.
I’m not an MS Apps guru, but I’m wondering if it’s possible to force Word to open and run through the merge process using the Excel data saved by Tessitura scheduled report process?
If you do manage to get Word to do this please let us all know!
Cheers
Sandra

We have done a bit more investigation into methods and the best found so far would be to save the output of a report to a specific location, then a coded VBS script (for example) runs through the process of opening, merging and saving the merged documents / or print them. This program can then be applied to a scheduled job that runs at some point after the reports have been generated each week (for example).
This is a possibility we may look into a little more and it appears to be a sound solution??

Hi Chris,
I just came across this thread today. We are trying to setup something similar to what you described and I'm wondering how you got on with it?
My ideal is to have a Tess scheduled report auto email the completed merged Word doc to a user. Then that user can make any edits needed in the letters and print.
Its a pretty tedious and error prone task at the moment running ack letters report for 9 different letters!
ta,
Dara
Hi Dara
I think if I remember rightly we moved away from the idea in the end and haven’t revisited it since. The suggestion I detailed below made the most sense – but you know how it can be when another project comes along and takes precedence! I think the reason we raised the issue in the first place is still now being done manually.
I guess you could probably write a script in vb or c# - then have it run on a Windows Scheduled job?
Hope that helps Dara!

I eventually got a chance to do the vbscript for the auto mail merge.
I've uploaded a document here with how I set this up and with the vbScript code if its of use to you.
Its been working well for us but it could probably do with some better error reporting if anything goes wrong.
cheers,
