Attaching Acknowledgements and Correspondence (files)

I am curious how/if other places attach acknowledgement letters and donor correspondence to donor files - which scenarios you do or don't attach, where you attach it, etc.

We currently attach acknowledgement letters for major gifts as a step in the plan, likely to be expanded to letters acknowledging non-major gifts from donors in someone's portfolio.  We don't have set guidelines for attaching other donor correspondence, it tends to be case by case (or really, when someone thinks to do it).
