Hello,
We have a new Director of Development and he'd like donors to have the option to not only make the 1-time gift but also make monthly donations online. I was wondering if anyone has set up sustained giving/monthly donations on the web? I was looking on the Tessitura Help System and I wasn't able to find anything. I could be looking in the wrong place, of course.
How does one do this? And is there a way, within Tessitura, to automatically charge people that would like to donate this way?
I'd appreciate any help with this.
Many thanks!
Brittany
Hi Brittany,
This isn't my area of expertise... but it's my understanding that currently you can't really have the website do this. That might be the case for us because we put all donations to On Account so that we can allocate appropriately - maybe the answer is different if you have them booked right into a fund. I'm not sure.
But how we have gotten around it here is by having the website charge them automatically for the first payment (the website sees it as a regular donation) and having it add an order note for our development staff that indicates the intention of this is to be monthly. They then set it up as a pledge with a billing schedule when they move the money off On Account and into a contribution.
For example, if someone wants to make a donation of $10 monthly they would be charged $10 at the time which would go On Account and the order itself would have an order note that indicated $10m (for $10 monthly).
If that's of interest to you then you would need to speak to your web developers about getting that set up!
We are not doing this at SD Opera, but I have given some thought to this in the past.
Would creating a CSI work the same way as the order? The person processing gifts could set up the view csi upon logging in to Tess. There would still need to be some web and web set up. But, it may work and this would keep it out of the order module.
Our website has created CSI’s for other things, I wonder if it would work here, too.

You can check out our website, www.cocastl.org. We have an option for monthly giving. It’s a manual set up for our Development Mgr. All of the money goes On Account. She creates a monthly pledge billing schedule. It’s not automatic but we wanted to provide options for our donors as well. Hope this helps!

Hi Shelley,
Thank you so much. I've been hearing that a lot of places are set up for "on account" for the inital payment. I hadn't thought of this, but it makes a lot of sense to me.
I really appreciate you getting back to me!
This is great! I think with the information I've received from all of you lovely people I'm now on the right track. I'm going to be working on this soon. Many thanks!!
Hi Lisa,
Suzie Davidson from the Web Products team here. I like your creativity using the checkout survey and the simple contributions, but as you call out, the checkout survey function is designed to send a CSI for each order placed on your site.
May I suggest another route? I see that you already have the Monthly Donation set up on your contribution 2 page. Since the monthly giving option is not necessarily considered a simple contribution, I suggest adding a link to this donation in the Shipping/DonationAsk content area on the Shipping page. This will take the patron out of the checkout path and into the contribution area that is designed to gather additional information from the patron.
If you have any questions about this, please open a TASK ticket in the web products workspace and we can help you get that set up.
Thanks!
Suzie
