Extending Expired Memberships

Hello all!  I have a question about memberships.  We have a few memberships that have expired, but we would like to extend a few of them out to give the donor a grace period as these are big donors and we know they will be donating again.  I thought it would be as easy as going into the membership and changing the expiry date but that didn't seem to work.  Is there a better way to do this?  Thank you for your help :-)

    Hi Michelle,

You can configure your memberships to automatically include a grace period using the "Lapse" setting in membership setup. Tessitura considers a membership in "Lapsed" status to still be active. At PNB we've configured our highest membership levels to have a longer lapse period than lower level donors for exactly the type of situation you're describing.

That said, if your memberships have already moved to "Inactive" status, I don't think there's any way to make them active again, short of having your database admin make edits on the back end. Memberships move from Active to Lapsed and then Lapsed to Inactive, but not in reverse.

If it's only a handful of donors, you could probably manually create new memberships for them to extend their benefits just for the time you want them to continue to show up as active members. It's a little messy, but it could work.
