Benefit Performance Ticket Sales on Web

Hi there,

How are other organizations handling benefit performances on the web?

We have an upcoming production in which one performance will be a benefit - tickets will be sold at a higher price and revenue will go against Development goals as opposed to Marketing goals.  We'd like to make tickets to this benefit performance available online.

I could associate a contributed revenue GL to the price maps for the Benefit tickets, but I'd really rather the income return in, say, a New Contributions Report, as opposed to a Box Office Sales Report. That is, I want the purchase to create a contribution-- not an order.

If we didn't care about offering this on the web, I could simply have our staff book the contribution, and ticket a comp.

As it is, we are thinking of using web customization to push the money from the ticket GL triggered by the price map, into a suspense account, and then book the income as a contribution.

This is more manual than I'd like it to be, and I'll be creating empty orders. In my dream world, I could associate a performance to an elevated event. Ticket sales to that performance would be booked as contributions to the funds associated to the elevated event campaign. Too much to wish for, I'm sure.

Would love to hear others' experiences.

thanks,

frannie

  • At UMS, we use TNEW and build a benefit perf as a regular performance and offer it as an aux event (http://tickets.ums.org/auxiliary/Reserve.aspx?p=2329  OR  http://tickets.ums.org/auxiliary/Reserve.aspx?p=2265).  Then when the order comes in, we have to return the regular performance and put the funds on acct.  We then process it as an elevated event.  So it's a multi step process but it works for us.  We don't get a lot of orders online so it doesn't create massive amounts of returning.

Let me know if you have any other questions,
