Using Initiator fields in tax receipt template

Wondering if anyone who is on v12 has utilized the Initiator field in their tax receipt template?  Currently, we have our own custom field in the Contribution Editor where we manually type in the name to be printed on the tax receipt (well aware that mistake can be made this way).  We had to resort to this when we moved over to v11 and the N1/N2 field could no longer be used in our tax receipt template.  My manager has concerns about whether using the Initiator field will somehow cause problems when/if we create online acknowledgements; but I think this can be tempered by creating a separate type of acknowledgement which would only run for online donations.  Regardless, I'm interested to hear if anyone has configured the Initiator field for use in their tax receipts, and what the experience has been (good or bad).

Thanks!

  • Hi Christine,

We're going live shortly on v12 with a custom field on contributions similar to what you have. I'm anticipating placing donations in the account of the company or individual that needs to be receipted and issuing the receipt the the owner. The one exception to this would be households. With a gift owned by a household (we're moving all transactions up to the household), we're going to use the custom field to specify if the initiator should be the named individual on the tax receipt. I can't tell you yet if this is going to work smoothly, but I will come back and let you know once we've had a chance to try it out.
