Printing Membership Cards from Tessitura Data

Currently exporting Tessitura membership data through a report, then copying and pasting into an Excel template set up for mail merge into our membership card template.  This Excel template has fields for constituent name and ID numbers, along with formulas that take the ID strand and convert into bar codes for our scannable cards.

Does anyone have scannable membership cards that they print straight from Tessitura?  We would love to eliminate the need for Excel.  Currently printing with an Evolis Pebble Printer.

Current Process:
Run a Data Management Report using a list of recently entered memberships
Copy necessary fields into Excel template (necessary fields are Prefix, First Name, Last Name, ID, Affiliate ID
Excel formulas use entered fields to create bar code formulas
Mail merge into a Word Document, designed to print on membership card
Card design includes Member name, the household ID, the bar code generated from that number, the individual ID, and the bar code generated from that number)

Can we generate bar codes straight from Tessitura?

We currently have a custom acknowledgement that's formatted to fit our cards (CR80) and we print it directly on an Evolis Primacy. The acknowledgment was created in Infomaker by a Tessitura consultant.

  • Stephanie,

Since you’re already using a mail merge document, you can simply merge your data into the word doc rather than editing in excel.

All you need to print a bar code is a bar code font, and there are many on the internet. Just be sure you confirm that you can scan them – any data you are including in the bar code can be pre-programmed in your merge doc in order to make the process really simple. We print name, mem level, exp date, and bar codes on our cards without issues so I’m sure you can get your system set up as well.

There was a good session at the last conference on acknowledgements and mail merging – I’d recommend checking that out so you can simplify your process.

    Hope that helps!
