Hello,
Pacific Symphony is entering the initial stages of our fiscal year end Challenge. Part of this Challenge is that one of our most valued donors has pledged to match all new or increased gifts. Last year, donors that gave from March to June 2013 were put under a specific Challenge Appeal and Source Code in an effort to track these donors. A manual list was also created to track this increase in giving.
Unfortunately, this was not the cleanest way to track this information and we are hoping to improve our efforts this year. Is there any reporting or tracking option that the Symphony could utilize to show an increase in giving per constituent? For example, if a constituent gave $100 last year and $150 this year, how can we track that $50 increase without having to manually track that? Ultimately, we would like to have a system in place so that this time next year, we have an easier way to have donors renew.
Any guidance on this challenge would be appreciated!
Hi Christopher,
We have had a number of challenges, which presents the “challenge” of reporting. PSO is part of a consortium, so I created my own reporting in Access that I usually just update to the current year. But perhaps someone at your org could take the same logic and build a report for you. Or you could use Excel and Vlookup and logic formulas if you don’t know access. The key is finding the right report. We have a custom report that pulls up to 5 campaigns in separate columns that I use, but the Campaign Giving Comparison might be a report that would also work. This accounts for someone who gives several gifts that are increased over the previous year, BUT only part of that increase was given during the challenge period.
I’m happy to share the logic I’ve used to set up our challenge calculations if you are interested.
Feel free to contact me for more information.
