We are exploring using barcodes on response devices to help expedite the gift entry process. I am hoping to learn from other organizations who have already implemented (or at least considered) this strategy in Tess to get a better idea of the possibilities and requirements.

One question… Does the custom programming of keyboard shortcuts include the actual selections? For example, would you be able to program the Fund, Designation, Acknowledgement letter type, etc. that corresponds with a given barcode?
It looks like from the tab order the Fund is easy to add to the barcode especially if you added a fund code at the front of the description of the fund and if the user has Show Contribution Payment Screen First unchecked in their preferences. The designation comes after payment, pledge, and # of payments so you could add it to the barcode if you include tab codes for those fields. For the acknowledgement letter I would use the acknowledgment rules to select the letter rather than relying on the barcode for that. You will need to test the length of the barcode as the more data in the barcode the longer it is. Also on the first gift of the day the user will need to set their channel, it is a sticky field though so as long as they are in the contribution processing window it will stick for them.
