Retrieving alternate addresses

I have searched the forums to see if there is any help on this issue.  Currently we are in a consortium and some records have multiple addresses, one of which is primary.  I have not been able to find any report or output set to select a specific type of address.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi Karen,

You might find the second recipe in the Output Set cookbook relevant to what you're after - output of emails by eaddress type - just search for the cookbook on the site which is downloadable in a Word document.

    Cheers,

    Kevin

  • Thanks Kevin but I was hoping to get the non-primary street address – I can get the emails no problem.  But I will look for the Output Set cookbook.

  • Hi Karen,

Addresses pull according to the mail purpose assigned to them, not by type.   One thing to note is a mail purpose works best when used for one address type.  For instance, we have a development address type and check a mail purpose of Patron when pulling devo addresses, a board address type which has the mail purpose of Board, etc.  I’m sure there are other ways to set it up, but this is how we are currently using in the Pittsburgh consortium.   So if you’re not using a mail purposes you should look into adding those to your address types.

    Hope that helps.

  • Thanks, that makes perfect sense.  Will not be able to update all records right now, but great to think about in the future.  Found another way to use the date fields and need to update only those records that have multiple addresses.

    Thanks again,
    Karen

  • Hi Karen,

We are also in a consortium and use multiple address types (there are many of them, especially in development) and we had our IT team write us a report to all us to return results for a specific address type, salutation type, phone type and/or email type.  We use it for specific mailing purposes like invitations, holiday cards, board mailing, etc.  (We didn't use purposes before due to the limited number allowable and inability to give each member of the consortium more than one or two fore use, though we plan to use them more robustly now that we're in v12.)

This may not be helpful to you at the moment; however, I'm sure our team would be happy to share the logic with you.

    Best,
    Amber
