Pledge & Balance Totals in Appeal Header seem to include written-off pledges

Is it normal behaviour that Pledge and Balance totals in Appeal headers
would include pledge amounts that have been written off? We have never
noticed this before, so I am assuming it is not normal. Currently, the
appeal header totals do not balance against the Campaign Revenue Report,
which lists revenue for the appeal and sources correctly (meaning after
the write-off).

If this sounds odd to others in the network, we will submit a ticket.
Thanks very much! Catherine

  • Hi Leslie,

The network told us to run  the AP_UPDATE_APPEAL stored procedure for our appeal and now everything balances.  So, not a bug, but something clearly got off-track in our scheduled procedures without us being aware.  If you are seeing the same discrepancy, then you may have the same issue.

Thanks again for taking the time to look into this! Catherine

You are correct the Screens header do not change (regardless of source code or date range) but the Campaign Revenue DOES show the change.  It’s the report I was recalling.   I believe the difference is how the data is stored and I believe the difference is intentional  -- the reason was explained a while back but can’t recall now exactly but I think it would be so you can see what a campaign/appeal did when it was actively being worked and for marketing purposes.

Write-offs  usually occur  a  time period after so between the Campain/Appeal which records transactional detail and the Screen header that do not – you get to have both sets of data.

I do not think this is a bug though

Hi Leslie, thanks for responding so quickly.  I think I may not have been clear enough though....  The problem is that the appeal totals still contain revenue that has been written off and should not be included - i.e. the Pledge total in the appeal header was not reduced by the write-off:

    Illustration:

    • The previous appeal header Pledge total was $1000, and in the Campaign Revenue Report, the revenue total for that appeal equals gifts plus pledges at $1000
    • We then write off a $400 pledge
    • Now, the appeal header pledge total is still $1000 , whereas the Campaign Revenue Report appeal total has been reduced by $400 and now equals gifts plus pledges at $600
    • Basically, it looks like the write-off is being recognized in the Campaign Revenue Report, but not in the appeal header totals.

Unless I am misunderstanding your response, it sounds like we do have a problem.  I'll submit a ticket.  Thanks!   Catherine
