Membership Questions...Answered!

Hello everyone! The Planning Committee for this year's conference has begun its work, and this year the Network has seen fit to add a new track: Membership! Clare Kiklowicz of the Segerstrom Center for the Arts and I will be leading a crack committee of Tessitura users and staff to develop content for this first-ever set of sessions. We are specifically focused on the Membership Module within Tessitura, which can be used to track industry standard museum memberships and benefits or can be used more creatively to segment audience groups or track other details.

We want to know: What are your most burning membership questions or challenges? Introductory or advanced, small organization or large, we'll be trying to create sessions that will be useful for as many people as possible. Here's your chance to get your vote in if you're not on the Planning Committee: Please comment here and let us know what you'd like to see!

Thanks for your feedback - looking forward to another great conference this year!

Yes, definitely benefit allocation and tracking. I'd be especially interested to hear if anybody is doing a "choose your own benefits" model for a large number of their patrons, and how they're tracking that.

I'd also interested in hearing basic strategies for keeping memberships clean and error-free, and any tips on best practices for when you need to adjust/deactivate. We've been using memberships for years and we still get tripped up in the more complex cases.

  • Benefit tracking is a big one for us also. We have a 'museum' style membership where we sell cheap ($15-$100) memberships that include a number of complimentary tickets. Our current approach is to include paper admit 1 vouchers with the welcome letters.

I have been looking for a better approach where this benefit (free ticket vouchers) is given automatically to the new/renewing member without the need for physical admit 1 vouchers, but have not found a replacement system yet.

We have been using memberships for about 3 years now, I will try and come up with some more common issues.
