Is there any way to enter a MG after the original gift has been entered in the constituents record?
We make a separate entry for the match. We also credit the company and individual. Your business practice will determine which entity receives the soft credit in this situation.

Yes – it often is. However when you enter it after the original gift it is what we call a “back door” entry – you have to add it from the company/employer record rather from the constituent record.

so i enter in the gift (matching) in the foundation's record and give soft credit to the constituent? I also assume this is a matching gift payment and not a pledge?
That’s how we do it. The gift (or pledge) in the Foundation Account soft credited to the Patron.

Because we have not found a way to include soft credits in reports for an individual’s donor history or current giving, we actually book the matching gift on the individual’s record and soft credit the matching gift and extensive notes to account for the entry -- to accommodate the Tessitura reporting structure. While this is not a ‘best practices’ approach, it is a donor-centered approach which guides our internal business practices as most donors want the matching gift to be credited to their giving history/giving membership level totals. Other fundraising software programs allow you to select what types of contributions you want included in giving totals – gifts, pledges, soft credits – I have not found this ability in Tessitura – or I do not know that this exists as an option for reporting. Maybe others have found ways without having to write customized SQL formulas.

Wondering if anyone can share how they set up matching gift processes in Tessitura. We're very new and I'm not sure we're utilizing this functionality correctly.
I'm interested in how you process a matching gift and how you report on those. I really want to see all of those gifts reflected in the total giving of a donor, not the company. But, I think the documentation states that most reports don't do that!
Thanks!
We put all the matching gifts on the Company record and soft credit the Individual/HH. When I need to include the soft credits on and Individual/HH giving history, I download a Fund Activity Report to Excel and use pivot tables to get the combined totals.

We put the matching gifts on the company record and soft credit the individual/HH. We then have a custom report to pull gifts by creditee type if we are looking for totals or lists of everyone who gave a matching gift, but we also use the Current Constituent Giving by List report to get an individual’s total giving – it’s particularly helpful when donors are giving individually and through a family foundation or other DAF as it pulls all of their giving but you do have to make a list of the record(s) you want. You can also select which creditee types you want to be pulled in this report.
A couple years ago we looked into other ways to track and report Matching Gifts, IMO and IHO gifts and decided to stick with the way we were doing it but the other 2 ways that might work well are:

I put the matching gift entry on the individual’s record and credit the gift amount to the matching donor. Not best practices, but it is donor-centered with the amount hard credited to the donor using current Tessitura database reporting calculations. Also, I can retrieve all of the matching gift donors as I created a ‘matching gift’ as a creditee type.
If we could report on ‘soft credits’ and request that ‘soft credits’ be added to a donor’s giving total when running reports or memberships, this would solve the issue and would allow us to put the hard credit on the matching gift donor record with the soft credit on the individual record, but I have not seen this capability in Tessitura, yet.

We are still struggling with getting our matching gifts credited to the donor and not the company when pulling lists and reports for our Annual Fund! Anyone out there have success with this that they'd be willing to share?
Thanks! Suzanne
