Monitoring Membership Upgrade Trends (Moves Management) with Different GL Codes?

Hello all,

My org is about to launch a new lower tier museum style membership program to drive engagement with our audiences. I was planning on creating new lower Levels in our existing Membership Organization to monitor the trends of constituents upgrading to a higher level when their lower tier membership expires. 

However, my understanding is that because the GL is tied to the Fund, which is tied to the Campaign and the Membership Organization, this is not possible.

How do other companies approach this? Do you simply have a single GL for Memberships, and split the revenue using various other metrics? Do you have different Funds/Membership Organizations and not rely on the standard Trend functionality?
