Social Distancing Seating for next season?

Is anybody having conversations about social distancing seating for next season? Maybe kill every other pair of seats. Just curious if anybody has gone through that mental exercise.

  • Similarly... has anybody successfully used NSCAN with hands-free scanners (like the Zebra DS9208)? The idea is to allow for social distancing between our ushers and guests while scanning tickets, which we worry the handheld scanners will not allow us to do. Anybody else out there thinking about this, or considering it as an option?

  • Hey Tiffany - I reached out to Tessitura Support with a similar question the other day - we were asking about minimal contact scanning, and building some sort of scanning "station", like a stand that would keep the scan button pressed down at all times. They talked with their NScan experts and sent me the following:

"Technically you can set the scanners to be "constantly on" meaning the laser part of the scanner is always active. you would want to set that up on some sort of permanent holder/stand.  With that said there are a few caveats to consider:

    • you are trusting the patron to scan and current messaging both validating or not are not very user friendly so would probably want someone present to validate as needed (sounds like this will still be present)
    • battery life may be an issue as by having set to on means constantly active specifically for Android-based devices
    • potential wear and tear as overall usage lifetime of the device would increase

But in general, the functionality does not exist today as Nscan currently requires user intervention.  The products team is actively reviewing the possibility of adding this functionality to the NScan application and are currently in discussion with a few vendors to assess needs and development requirements to complete.

We have added you to the list of interested parties and if you would like to talk a bit further with our experts, specifically Tami Fox let us know and will coordinate for you."

  • I am curious... when they say you can set the scanners to be "constantly on", are they referring to creating some sort of stand that will keep the scan button pressed down, or is there actually a setting on the TC51 that allows for the scanner to always be on? I can't find any information on it in the TC51 documentation... it seems like the only way to scan is to press the button. If you have more info on that, I would be very grateful.

  • And how can I get added to the list of interested parties for contactless scanning?!

  • I interpreted it as having the button constantly pressed. And I'd pop in a Tessitura Support ticket - they can add you to the list or connect you with Tami!

  • Awesome. Thank you so much for the input! It was super helpful.
