"Donate for Resale" vs refund->on acct->to contribution

We normally do ticket donations as "donate for resale," then manually generate and send out a thank you/tax letter to patrons.  In this manner, the income stays with the production, and is never reflected as an actual donation.

I'm not sure this is the best policy to continue with the current situation and the increased qty that we expect to see (having cancelled our two current production runs, and considering postponing or cancelling our final of the season).

Any thoughts as to whether financially this "donated" ticket income should be removed from the productions and officially transferred to contributed income?

TIA and May the Odds be Ever in Your Favor,

Keri

  • Hi Keri,
We opted to have a specific COVID19 ticket donation (we named it after the show but could easily be this). We gave all tickets sellers access to this donation and did it in the same transaction. We offered ticket donation first, on account/gift certificate second/third, and finally a refund. We have a special on account for the show too. That way we should be able to track what people are opting for more easily.
