"Donate for Resale" vs refund->on acct->to contribution

We normally do ticket donations as "donate for resale," then manually generate and send out a thank you/tax letter to patrons.  In this manner, the income stays with the production, and is never reflected as an actual donation.

I'm not sure this is the best policy to continue with the current situation and the increased qty that we expect to see (having cancelled our two current production runs, and considering postponing or cancelling our final of the season).

Any thoughts as to whether financially this "donated" ticket income should be removed from the productions and officially transferred to contributed income?

TIA and May the Odds be Ever in Your Favor,

Keri

  • Hi Keri - we decided to "return" the seats and edit the contribution amount in the original ticket order, so the income goes into our unrestricted individual giving fund. We also added a ticket donation designation for easy tracking/reporting in the future. We cleared this with Finance before moving forward.
