Hi All
I would like to start the conversation of how to authentically reach diverse audiences and create a welcoming experience. I would love to reach and create a diverse audience and want them to return to the theatre.
Has anyone one had a successful campaign, events that drive awareness, ticket sales, and engagement?
Does anyone have a Advisory Committee?
I was thinking of creating a survey for local BIPOC group as to how we best can serve and reach the community? Would love some input.
Any resources and/or suggestions are welcomed.
Hi Kat.
We've been going through our strategic plan over here and that's on our mind a lot. What I've been asking us is what do we mean by diversity. If you were going to break it down what would that be? And I think that authenticity is a part of the actions of that.
Just one current example, we have an accessibility goal and an opportunity in realising that came up with audio described performances and tactile tour. The follow up is building that into the schedule as a regular offering along with communication to and feedback from audience re engagement. I hope that authenticity here is opening a dialogue with audience and whole organisational buy in.
Kat,
Surveys will help capture interest, so your theatre can tailor programs and productions. However, building relationships, by partnering with BIPOC business and organization is an authentic approach. The WHY is also important and should align with the overall work of your theater. Something else to think about is your staff and board diversity, in addition to the overall language/ messaging used as an organization. It's all connected :)
