Gift Aid on Household Accounts - Ignore!

**Ignore me.  I found my answer***

Hi All

Our Development team approached me to ask why a payment on gift aidable Household account was out of scope.  Long story short (is was the payment method), it turns out that we've been claiming gift aid on Household accounts.  My understanding was you can only claim gift aid against individuals.

I'm interested to find out what others, who use households, are doing for Gift Aid.  Is my understanding incorrect, are you able claim against the household?

Very many thanks in advance

Lee-Anne

  • Hi Lee-Ann,

My understanding (Development people please jump in if I'm wrong), for this to work correctly the GA declaration has to be individual record and if the contribution is processed on the HH the initiator must be used in order for it all to be recorded and processed properly. This is how we did it at Sage.

I'm pretty sure you have to do it on an individual basis as it is to do with that person being a valid UK Tax payer etc. Again, Dev/Finance people will be more up on the legal/HMRC side of things.

    Hope this is useful,

    Kelly

  • Thanks Kelly.

This is very helpful.  We are doing it as we should, we are recording declarations against the individual.  There was just a moment of panic when a household account popped up looking a bit messy when it came to gift aid.  We started to question ourselves as to whether we were doing it right.

    Best
